Shot GlassPosted by Michael Zhang (Ithaca, United States) on 3 February 2007 in Miscellaneous and Portfolio. I tried a bit of still life photography at home. Because of my lack of money for actual studio equipment, I set up a desk lamp and a blank piece of white poster paper.

Kelvin Chan from New York City, United Stateslighting isn't bright enough. nice try though. 3 Feb 2007 5:03am Kelvin Chan from New York City, United Statesand it's very very grainy on the right. 3 Feb 2007 5:04am Jerry from Tampa, United StatesI think the light is fine! Like the image Michael! This is another difficult shot to make with available light, but you pulled it off! 3 Feb 2007 5:31am Sidonie from Sydney, AustraliaThe glass is lying on its side, right? And the shot is from above. Perhaps if you centred it, and gave the illusion that it's standing, it might be more dramatic - that said, I like the color and the lighting ... 3 Feb 2007 6:44am Dimitrios from ATHENS, GreeceYOU DO NOT NEED MONEY, YOU NEED IDEAS AND THIS WAS A VERY GOOD ONE, WELL DONE 3 Feb 2007 9:13am Jen from United StatesI like it, it looks like it's floating, or hanging on a wall...the lighting is very nice and soft. Good work! 3 Feb 2007 1:33pm Donna from Manchester, New Hampshire, United StatesI like the lighting too. I like how it looks like it is floating :) 3 Feb 2007 1:53pm Alfredo J. Martiz J. from Tokyo, JapanI think it was a nice Idea Michael, I liked the lighting and the glass is cool! 3 Feb 2007 4:14pm Rebecca from United Statesthe abstractness is great! it's a stunning image - it's tough to get good lighting when you're playing with shadows and effects. i do like the grain, though. 3 Feb 2007 4:15pm Wayne from Melbourne, AustraliaGreat job Michael! I once read an article about national geographic photographers and how because they worked mostly in the field away from normal lines of support and without the luxury of their studio equipment...and so they improvised using pillowsheets and table lamps to create soft illum lighting...and there's no reduction in quality...what you're doing is no less different or creative! Keep it up =D 3 Feb 2007 8:01pm Leslie Horacek from Brussels, BelgiumNice one Michael - not bad for a home grown setup. Looks like a night light to me. 3 Feb 2007 10:20pm Kelvin Chan from New York City, United Statespeople use plastic boards i think. and I just noticed the distortion twisting the glass. 3 Feb 2007 11:57pm Duncan Galbraith from kyoto, JapanA fine home shot Michael. I can never light my still lifes effectively, hence the lack of them on my blog. I remember asking you a while back about the counterfeit coins shot and I recall you mentioned you shot in afternoon light for that particular one. Inside stuff is much harder though, might give it a go again, taking on board the pillowsheets advice again. This puts my home shot efforts in the shade. 4 Feb 2007 5:29am jc from Irelandreally well done .. i think the light falling away from left to right is really effective, and love your composition .. nice one! 4 Feb 2007 10:18pm Ben from New York City, United Statesi feel that its too hot in the lower left hand corner, but il ove the composition 5 Feb 2007 4:01am Sarala from Chicago, United StatesI'm not going to comment on technical aspects but I like the color and they blue light shining through onto the poster board. Makes me want to play with indoor lighting. 7 Feb 2007 2:07am |
