Impending

Hudson River, NYC. Both parties are getting ready for this docking process.

I'd like to ask everyone a favor. Please include at least one piece of constructive criticism in your comments. I believe the best way to become a better photographer is to shoot a lot, view a lot, and get critiqued often. Thank you!

It's a pretty typical picture. My advice: on crappy days like this where the sky is bleak (or maybe it's just NJ =P), crop tight, zoom long, and focus on the macro world. Or fill the frame up, just not with sky and water. This photo is about the best you can do under the conditions though.

The guy standing there and the position of the ramp sets the mood for this one. Perhaps wait for the guy to actually look at the ramp to increase the "aspiration" mood?

I think it's a very good picture. I know it's not constructive but that was the first thing I thought when seing it in my rss feed. Now about constructive criticism :
- The building in the background are keeping to much of my attention. I know I've been criticised for keeping using my 2.8 aperture but I use it to avoid this kind of things to happen. A blurry background feels more natural to my eyes unless the background is the subject. I think it's a matter of taste , I'm trying to use more differrent apertures...
- Second, but that can't be helped. I would have prefered the boat a little closer to the platform, just 50 cm to 1 meter would have been right I think. But I know myself how hard it is to have the perfect timing in those situations...That's why I take photos of unmoving things more often and more easilly... I'm ashamed telling advices on things I don't even try :p

Personally I like it. I'm in favour of the buildings, as they provide a great sense of scale to the photo. Im guessing its a bay yeah? anyway, it looks pretty damn big. Good shot.

I like it. I'm with Duncan on having the buildings in the background however I would've waited a little longer and had more of the boat in the frame. Maybe halve the distance between the boat and the wharf.
